CIS (Component Information System) Speeds Design and Lowers Costs
Many production delays and cost overruns can be eliminated through efficient management of component information. With OrCAD Capture CIS, you'll reduce or eliminate a number of problems:
Board rework due to incorrect component data
Even something as simple as changing the wattage on a resistor without changing the corresponding footprint and part number can throw the schematic, PCB layout and bill of materials out of sync. This can easily trigger an expensive, unnecessary board turn.
Production delays caused by out-of-stock parts
Inadvertently specifying an obsolete component or one with a long lead-time can cause an unplanned, costly delay. All too often, these problems aren't discovered until the product is on the verge of going to manufacturing.
Higher-than-anticipated component costs
Without directly accessible cost information at design time, it's easy to introduce high-priced parts and miss the opportunity to use lower-cost substitutes.
High inventory costs due to duplicate parts.
Redundant parts are often introduced into the inventory system when functionally equivalent parts are already available and in stock. With OrCAD Capture CIS, you'll solve many problems associated with incorrect or incomplete part data. The key to the system is an embedded part selector that accesses information in corporate MRP or ERP systems, engineering databases and on the Internet. The CIS system synchronizes the externally sourced data with your schematic database, so you output bills of materials completely, accurately and automatically. With OrCAD Capture CIS, you will:
- Promote the reuse of your company's preferred components
- Reuse known good part data
- Assist in the rapid introduction of new parts into the approval process
- Ensure design data integrity, through part property validation
