For many modern parts, the graphics consist of a rectangle surrounded by multiple pins. Since determining the required size of the rectangle and placing the Pins is relatively easy to automate, generating such Schematic Parts from a Spreadsheet is a possibility.
The Spreadsheet input takes the Name, Number of sections, Part Reference Prefix, whether the sections should be identified with Alphabetic or Numeric, and an array of Pin details: Pin Name, Pin Number, Type, Pin Visible, Pin Shape, Pin Group, Pin Position and Section.
The array of Pin details is expecting all of the field values to be text so check the formatting before pasting values in from other applications since the numerical text for Pin Number may be converted to numerical values.
Once the Schematic Part has been created, it is possible to return to the “spreadsheet view” by selecting the part in the library and right-clicking “Split Part”.
Note that Schematic Parts created from the spreadsheet view are always Heterogeneous Packages.
