1. Make sure that the schematic window is active, and select Place>Wire from the menu.
(You can also use the Place Wire icon in the schematic toolbar, or press the W key on the keyboard).
2. Left-click pin 14 of part 74F162. Move the cursor to the right a short distance, then double-click to end the wire.
3. Press the F4 key three times.
The wire segment is repeated each time, one grid down from the original.
4. Press the Esc key twice.
5. Select Place>Net Alias from the top menu.
(Or use Place Net Alias icon, or press N on the keyboard)
6. In the Place Net Alias window, enter Q0 and left-click>OK. A net alias box is attached to the cursor.
7. Left-click the wire attached to pin 14 of the 74F162 part.
Net alias Q0 is assigned to the selected wire. Place Net Alias is still active.
8. Successively left-click on the wires attached to pins 13, 12, and 11.
The Net aliases automatically increment from Q1 to Q2 and Q3 for each left-click.
9. Press the Esc key twice.
Note
Pressing F4 to repeat the prior action does not work in Place Net Alias mode. Also, if the net alias ends in a non-numeric character, the name remains the same when you place successive aliases.
10. Use the Place>Wire and Place>Net Alias icons to complete the schematic. (Refer to the example shown at the beginning of the previous lab).
11. Use the Place No Connect icon to add No Connect symbols to all unconnected pins of the 74F162 part (except pin 15).
12. Select File>Save from the top menu to save the design.
Note
To remove a “No Connect” symbol, left-click the Place No Connect icon, and left-click over any existing “No Connect” symbol already set on a pin in the schematic, the No Connect will “toggle” between present and not present.
