Lab 9-1: Assigning Reference Designators 17.4

Open the Lesson8 design if it is not already open, File>Open.

1. Left-click the reference designator text U? for the 74F162 part.

 

2. Right-click>Edit Properties from the pop-up menu.

 

3. In the Display Properties window, enter U1 into the Value field and left-click>OK.

 

4. Left-click anywhere in the schematic page to deselect the highlighted reference designator text. Observe that the Reference now reads U1 and the value is underlined to indicate a User Assigned Reference

 

5. Save the design.

 

6. In the Project Manager window, left-click the .\lesson8.dsn entry.

 

7. Select Tools>Annotate from the top menu, or left-click the icon in the main toolbar.

 

8. In the Annotate window, left-click>OK to close the form, left-click>Yes, the “undo warning” and left-click>OK the “continue” message.

Your design is annotated and saved.

 

9. View the auto-assigned reference designator (U2A). Observe that the manually assigned reference designator was not changed. This is because you ran the annotation program in Incremental mode, the default.

Note

The Options>Preferences, Miscellaneous tab contains an Auto Reference checkbox, if checked, this option auto-assigns reference designators as you place parts, be sure to also set the Design level option.
