Lab 7-3a: Setting Class-Class Rules using Capture CM 17.4

1. Start OrCAD Capture again and select an OrCAD PCB Designer Professional, or OrCAD PCB Designer Professional with Capture CIS option license if you see the License Picker and open the Release project (If it’s not already running and open)

 

2. Select the Release.dsn file entry in the Project Manager window

 

3. Open / activate the Constraint Manager, left-click>OK if you get the “Enable Constraint Manager” message
Before setting up the Class to Class rules, a class for some more nets will be created.

 

4. Left-click on the Spacing domain at the left

 

5. Select All Layers in the Net folder as shown below:

 

 

6. Left-click in the Constraints cell under the Objects column and right-click in the Constraints cell and, from the pop-up menu, select Create>Class.

 

7. In the Create Net Class form, enter VDNETS for the name, un-check the option to create the Net Class for both physical and spacing, and left-click>OK

 

 

8. Left-click the VDNETS cell in the Net Classes list (NCls)

 

9. Select Objects>Group members from the Constraint Manager main menu.
(Or right-click>Net Class Members on the Class Name cell)

 

10 Left-click the “triangle” to the left of Nets to open the list of Nets.

 

11. Type VD in the Filter box near the top to just have Nets beginning with VD listed

 

12. Left-click the Net VD0 and shift+left-click the Net VD7 so that all eight Nets are selected

 

13. Left-click the > button to select the Nets for the VDNets Class

 

14. Left-click>OK to assign the Nets and close the form.

 

15. Locate the VDNETS class at the top of the Spacing Net list and assign Controlled as the Referenced CSet

 

 

16. Select the All Layers Worksheet in the Net Class-Class folder, as shown in the next screen shot.

 

 

17. Select the VDNETS cell and right-click>Create>Class>Class

 

 

18. Left-click VDNETS on the left side and left-click SYNC on the right hand side

 

 

19. Left-click>OK

 

20. Left-click in the Referenced Spacing CSet cell for the Sync Net Class-Class cell. Select the Power CSet from the drop-down to get the result shown below:

(It might have been better to name the Spacing CSet something other than Power but, this will work for the purposes of this lab)

 

21. Select File>Close from the Constraint Manager window.

 

22. Move to the Main Capture window and use File>Save to save the DSN file at this stage.

 

23. Left-click>Yes All if any “save” messages appear.

 

24. Select the Release.dsn file entry in the Project Manager window

 

25. Select PCB>Update Layout from the main menu

 

26. Left-click>Sync

 

27. Pick an OrCAD PCB Designer Standard or Professional license for PCB Editor

 

28. Use File>Exit in the Capture window and “Yes All” to save all changes

 

29. In PCB Editor, use File>Save As and set the board file name to constraints.brd

(This name will match the board file created by the steps from the labs that didn’t use the Capture Constraint Manager)
