Session 7: Fillet and Taper Traces 17.4

This lab covers some existing technology inside PCB Editor. This gives users the ability to add tapered traces and fillets to their PCB. Both of these options can improve the manufacturing reliability of the printed circuit board. Fillets (or teardrops) simply add copper between the pad or via and the track entering the pad to give the ”joint” better mechanical strength by adding copper. Tapered traces work in a similar method but for traces that have different track thicknesses. The tapered trace adds an angled piece of copper to taper the track thickness improving the mechanical structure of the change in thickness. Trace thickness changes can be there for mechanical reasons (like routing from a flexi area to a rigid area or examples such as constraint regions where the track must be thinner inside a BGA to physically get the routing out.
