Schematic driven flow
OrCAD Capture (CIS) to PCB Editor is a Schematic Driven flow. Changes to connectivity in the design are effected using the Design Sync process from Capture. This includes initially creating a board from the schematic based upon a master, or template, board such as the one that has been created in the previous labs. A “blank” template can also be used which will create a boards based upon some default settings. Since changes made to the board in PCB Editor can also affect the Nets in the Schematic, the Design Sync process is used both to create, and update, the board from the schematic and to update the schematic from the board. Updating the schematic from the board data will be covered later in the course.
In Capture, PCB>Design Sync Setup is used to set Design Sync options and, subsequently, PCB>Update Layout is used to update the Board from the Schematic and PCB>Update Schematic is used to update the Schematic from the Board.
